weekend bbq

this weekend we had a great bbq at joe kim’s place in LIC. perfect weather for bbq! some pictures below.

this is dave putting together our beer can (we used san pellegrino cans but put beer inside) chicken! (dave and susan did an awesome job marinating):

we also had some amazing ribs but i didnt take pictures of them when they were fresh bc we were too busy eating em… meat falls right off the bones…

stand burger

my friend brian and i like to visit burger places in the city. today brian, terri and i went to a new place called Stand. pretty good burger. so good i forgot to take pictures of my own burger and i had to take pictures from afar of other people’s burgers for this post. they have pretty big patties and they were pretty juicy. i would very much recommend and will definitely go there again.

snow white bun

mei li wah used to make these buns more regularly but stopped after they got too popular (seriously what bakery stops making it when it’s too popular?!?!). i found some last week.

gregorys coffee

it’s a nice little coffee shop on park ave between 24th and 25th. there’s nothing super duper special about it. they don’t make coffee blends from all around the world or have fancy decor… but they make pretty good standard coffee. their pastrys aren’t too bad either. they have free wifi (so a good place to sit down and do some work). and it’s a good place just to hang out w/ friends.

this past sunday my friend maria came to visit NY. (she’s the one who actually introduced me to this place). we went to hang out there w/ some friends after church. not much to say. just some good times. some pictures below.

expiration date

date formats frustrate me. sometimes is year first, sometimes its month first (rarely if ever do i find the year in the middle). yesterday i wanted to make a peanut butter jelly sandwich and i looked at the jelly jar to double check if it was expired.

the date said “08 08 09″

how are you supposed to know whether that’s aug 8, 2009 or aug 9, 2008?!

i ate the jelly anyway.

burgers and snow

today i had a five guys burger for lunch. it’s been a long time. i was so happy to be at five guys that i took a picture so i could post about it. it was very yummy.

and while at five guys it started to snow. like BIG CHUNKS of snow. i tried to take a picture but i dont think i could capture the bigness of the snow. anyway. it looked nice. eating a yum burger and watching snow fall.

artichoke pizza

last night i had a random unexpected outting w/ nancy. all i wanted to do was bring one of those snow white buns from chinatown that i keep evangelizing about so she could try it since i know she’s kinda crazy about foods. afterwards i was supposed to conveniently meet up w/ simon on the east side (where nancy lives) to go to some bike shop, but he decided not to come, so nancy suggested i try this place called artichoke pizza.

well… at least some of the best pizza i’ve had in a while. i tried a slice of their margarita which was pretty nice and tasty. crust had a nice crunch but i wouldn’t exactly call it “thin crust.” the sauce tasted good. i dont know how to describe sauce. it was just good. like… it wasn’t bad. then i moved on to their artichoke pizza. WOW. it was like… really awesome cream of artichoke (i actually haven’t had that but i’ve had cream of broccoli and cream of mushroom so i assume its similar) soup with really good bread at the same time. i don’t make it to the east side often but i might go there just for this. haha. it was good enough to get a blog post.

maybe i’m the last person to ever try it, bc it seems like people ive talked to have had it already. but if you’re in the area… it’s worth it… even if there’s a line.
